How much is your sister worth?

Sometimes I think I might be on of the luckiest people in the world, because I meet a lot of wonderful people with heartbreaking stories and learned life lessons. Although, I might just be really naive and automatically believe whatever they say( I don't think so though)...I'm going to go with it. What difference does it make whether or not they tell the truth..right...? At least you guys end up reading a new post..

Anyways, so back to my story, you see, today we had a Canadian speaker at our assembly. She grew up with her identical twin sister. They would switch classes, take each others tests and fool their friends and teachers, even their parents by wearing identical outfits. They had made all these plans about going to college, have a graduation party and they had practically their whole life planned out. Together. However, that was until the older sister died in a carcrash the day after their 18th birthday, the summer of their graduation.

She talked for almost an hour, and students who usually are high on testosterone and bouncing off the walls sat in the bleachers, quietly listening and for once showing respect. I think talking about speeding, which effects everyone of us daily, and proving that even though we have the impression that "it will never happen to me" printed in our minds, it could happened to you. Because it's your choice to get into someones car, to go way over the speed limit, your choice to not stick your neck up for friends and make sure to stay away from speeding friends and relatives, because it can happen to you. It happens to people just like you every day, every hour, minute, second.

I mean, what would you rather be? Someone who made the right choice or a number on a page? Because that's all her sister accomplished in her life, she is now a number on a page. And you know what? The guy who was driving the car broke his arm and got a concussion, a 150 DOLLAR fine and 15 days in jail. That's how much her sister's life was worth. 15 days in jail and a 150 DOLLAR fine. I hope for your sake that your sister, brother, best friend, mom, dad, the person you appreciate most in life, the person who is most important to you is worth more than that.

Peace Out. Drive carefully. Ida.
